The North Dakota School for the Deaf/Resource Center monitors the growth and progress of students in academic and vocational coursework as well as dormitory living.  

NDSD/ RC utilizes PowerSchool, an online grading system mandated by the state of ND for all k12 schools. Click on the image to log into PowerSchool or PowerTeacher. 

Report Card

NDSD/RC teachers and dorm counselors complete quarterly reports on the progress of each student. The reports, which shall include reports from teachers of mainstream classes, shall be sent to parents (or guardian). Copies shall be sent to non-custodial parents unless prohibited by court order.

Grading System

As one measure of student growth and progress, quarterly reports are issued in academic and residential areas. The grades recorded reflect a modified curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.

Middle school students are evaluated using the following scales:

  • Excellent: 100 - 90 or A
  • Above Average: 89 - 80 or B
  • Average: 79 - 70 or C
  • Below Average: 69 - 60 or D
  • Failing:   Below 59 or F

Developmental skills in academics, social skills, and personal development and elementary students are evaluated using the following scale:

  • 5 - Consistently exhibits skills
  • 4 - Exhibits skills most of the time
  • 3 - Meets requirements
  • 2 - Experiencing difficulty, but making progress
  • 1 - Experiencing difficulty, needs improvement

Kindergarten students are evaluated as Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory on a checklist of age-appropriate academic skills, work habits, and social skills.

Preschool students are evaluated using a checklist of age-appropriate skills and progress.

Residential students are evaluated in the areas of grooming skills, eating skills, social skills, responsibilities, personal management skills, and knowledge of self and family using the following scale:

  • E - Showing excellent growth
  • S+ - Showing growth beyond the expected level
  • S - Showing growth at a satisfactory level
  • NI – Area of concern which needs improvement
  • NA - Not applicable
